Magic Mushrooms are great and so are you!

Wow blimey I said I’d try and be a bit more frequent with the blog posts, and I absolutely did not stick that landing one bit, did I? Ah well, I’m here now, so enjoy hoovering up these precious words. It’s like a limited edition blog post, I guess, I’ve gone and accidentally created artificial scarcity due to my lack of organisation in writing - I'll try and get something up a bit more regularly, there's loads of cool stuff to chat about so I'll try and carve out a bit more writing time.

Spores galore!

In news that will surprise absolutely no-one, Golden Teachers remain the biggest seller, as it always is. There are plenty of other cool newer bits on the site though, like Menace and Jedi Mind Fuck, so why not give something a bit different a whirl? They’re all really good (I wouldn’t bother selling them otherwise), so give them a go and help to shift Golden Teacher off the number one spot!

What have you been doing lately Mr Monkey?

One of the best things recently was that I sponsored an event run by Darren Le Baron and Aénshent, called The Mycology Odyssey, which featured a chap called William Padilla-Brown. William’s basically the man when it comes to growing Cordyceps, and also (like the others) is a thoroughly decent human being. I travelled on up to London, got to meet a whole load of people who are also interested in mycology, and spent a couple of evenings learning a hell of a lot about how to cultivate Cordyceps, where mushrooms and psychedelics have been used in cultures around the world, and some other cool stuff.

What I think I like the most though was watching all these cool little niches that people are carving out in the mycology space. If you look at “plants” as a whole, everyone knows loads about them. Even a gardening dumbshit like me still has plants, still cares for plants, and knows how to grow (and kill!) a few. Compare that to mushrooms – it’s night and day, isn’t it? Why? It’s so odd. For whatever reason, mycology still seems very much in it’s infancy, and that’s what’s so exciting to me; there’s still just so much to be learned. Every one of us that’s busy tinkering around with spores, gourmet mushrooms, trying to design rad flowhoods, or cataloguing or preserving genes are all taking part in something that’s not really been done before to this scale. What a time to be alive!

Video Games update

Yeah I’m still a huge nerd, and I’m still playing video games. Where’s it at these days? Helldivers 2 is where it’s at. Hear me out: Starship Troopers (and just as daft), but also it’s got a bit of the Terminator thrown in because there’s missions where you’ve gotta deck robots too. Here’s my short review: 10/10. Here’s my longer one: 100000/100000. Four of you (or less if you don’t have any mates and don’t want to play with randoms) all get to land on a planet and pacify the population in the name of Managed Democracy. Basically you’re the bad guys but it’s all very tongue-in-cheek.

If you played the first Helldivers (you probably didn’t, because hardly anyone did), it’s like that but this time it’s not a top-down isometric view, it’s all modern third-person view like the kids these days enjoy (little fuckers don’t know they’re born). The formula still works though: land on planet in your Hellpod, desperately mash out a radio code Mortal-Kombat-fatality-style to summon down more weapons/airstrikes/orbital lasers, then attempt to complete various objectives against ridiculous numbers of enemies whilst you try not to blow yourself or your teammates up. You will die a lot, and you’ll be laughing the whole way though. It’s great. You should buy it.
